5 Things I Was Loving In April

Hi y’all! I only do favorite’s posts when I genuinely feel the need to share some good products and/or items. Most of these things aren’t necessarily “new,” but I was very fond of them in April once I came across them. My focus for the month was skincare and self care. April was a good month for me in terms of enjoying almost everything I tried, but I decided picking the best five would be much easier to share with you than the 100 things I enjoyed. These are some products/items that I have made permanent in my makeup routine, skincare routine, in my closet, etc.:

Drunk Elephant The Littles Set

This set has literally changed my life. Have y’all heard me go a week without talking about Drunk Elephant on my Instagram? NO. I was originally obsessed with the Marula Virgin Facial Oil and then I found myself curiously wandering around Sephora one day. I was intrigued by the rest of the DE line, so I sampled the Babyfacial. HOOKED. Then once again, I found myself being pulled towards the other products. I ended up purchasing The Littles Set because it had their top products at a sweet deal. Now I am obsessed with the entire line. Super dangerous for my bank account y’all. I apply the line of products day and night and I honestly haven’t seen my skin look this good in years, like before-I-knew-what-acne-was years. My skin isn’t as oily, has a lot more glow, and also feels amazing. Also, also, also, it’s super convenient for my travels. I can fit 9 skincare products in my overnight back without taking up hardly any room whatsoever! Def the number one thing I was loving in April.

Girl, Wash Your Face By Rachel Hollis

This booked was hyped on Instagram by other bloggers and people who are open with their faith. Totally intrigued, I had to purchase it. I wrote a review on this book in my previous blog post because I couldn’t get enough of it. You can see that review here and find out why I loved it so much. But, it is definitely one thing I was happy to come across this past month.

Shea Woman Bath Bombs

We have a pretty decent sized tub in our new apartment which means, lots of baths. I can’t take a bath without bubbles or bath bombs. This past month I was all about bath bombs. I met a woman in another part of Virginia who sold bath bombs at a kiosk in the local mall. Her personality was vibrant and her bath bombs smelled amazing. Total win meeting Mrs Harris. We made conversation and she educated me on all of the benefits of the bath bombs she made and what they were made of. Her husband and her make them themselves, how cute?! Not only was she an absolute doll, these bath bombs were the best ones I have ever used. I bought a handful of different scents and they all left me so relaxed and rejuvenated after every bath. Justin used one and I swear y’all he smelled so good the entire night and following morning (exactly like the bath bomb he used), so I know these bath bombs are no joke!

I’m all about supporting local businesses (although, this might not be local for most of y’all), but you can try one of Mrs Harris’ bath bombs yourself by checking out her website here. She can ship some to you anywhere!

Zella Activewear

When I was browsing around Nordstrom I came across the brand Zella. I am way behind, y’all. I don’t know how I haven’t purchased any of the Zella activewear items before (hand to face emoji). They are so comparable to Lululemon but at a fraction of the cost. I love my Lulu but I think this brand has such good quality items that I wouldn’t mind incorporating more pieces into my closet. I wear my Zella long sleeve top all the time because it is so comfortable. My next purchase is definitely going to be some leggings and maybe something for Justin, lol. If you don’t want to splurge on Lululemon but want something similar, try this brand! LOVE.

Fenty Beauty Mean Money/Hu$tla Baby Highlighter

OMG. If you’re on the market for a blinding highlighter, look no further. I am obsessed with Rihanna’s highlighters- especially the Mean Money/Hu$tla Baby duo. One is very glittery and the other is more of a subtle champagne, but I like to combine both of them to give me the perfect glow. The two colors that are absolutely perfect. These shades are suitable for almost any skin tone which is hard to come across with highlighters. I feel like I haven’t even made a dent in the highlighter yet and I’ve been using it everyday since I purchased it.

My Favorite Skincare Products

Skincare is sooo important to everyone at every age. It’s even better to start with a good routine before the age of 25. Even if you don’t suffer from acne or any type of skin issue, it is still important to take care of your skin. I do not have the best skin, I am still working to figure out what will get my skin where I want it to be, but I have come a long way. My skincare routine is nothing extraordinary by any means, but I’ve been posting a lot of content on my Instagram stories (@champagneandacarryon) regarding my skincare and I have received a lot of positive feedback. Through Instagram I have been able to interpret what content you like seeing me post about, that’s why I’m sharing this routine with you!

*I am not an esthetician, but my sister is if you truly have concerns about your skin I can relay the questions to her!

A little bit about my skin – I don’t have perfect skin but I don’t have severe acne prone skin either. I have some redness and discoloration on my face with a few zits here and there throughout the month (2 max.) I do have combination skin which means some days my skin is very oily and other days it’s crying for more moisturizer. I’m usually oily throughout the day and makeup plays a big factor in that oil. At night I have noticed that it’s more dry. It’s easier to gage what your skin needs or what it doesn’t need once you focus on religiously taking care of it for a good period of time. Here is what I have found works best for me and what I am loving right now.

CLEANSERS- I have recently tried a few cleansers that I totally stand by and would recommend to people. BUT, everyone has different skin with different concerns. The cleansers I use aren’t targeted to treat and prevent acne particularly. The cleaners I tend to gravitate to are just to wash the day away or prep it for my night routine and doesn’t make my oily skin any worse. My favorite cleansers are thePurity Face Wash by Philosphy – I had such a hard time switching from this one, even though I didn’t need to. I was getting more into skin care and wanted to broaden my horizons (aka fill my cabinets with more products!) Love Love Love the Philosphy face wash. Once I switched from Purity I tried the Enzyme Cleansing Gel by Mario Badescu and that one was a great cleanser as well and left my skin drier so when I combined it with a good moisturizer I was ready to roll without any unnecessary oil. The only thing I didn’t quite enjoy about the Mario Badescu one was the scent of the cleanser, I can’t compare the smell to anything at the moment but it wasn’t a fragrant scent at all. Recently I was given the Clinique Pep Start 2-in-1 Exfoliating Cleanser by a friend and I’m living for it. It makes my skin feel brand new because it has gentle exfoliating beads in it and I feel like my skin is REALLY clean after. Unfortunately, when I moved to Virginia I forgot it in my shower in California so I had to run to Sephora the other day to pick up a new face wash. I will probably get my Clinique one shipped to me soon so I thought I’d try another cleanser (for the blog 😜!) I picked upOrigins Checks and Balancescleanser and I am so obsessed with washing my face because of it. If it’s a frothy face wash and it smells like spearmint! Ugh, I can’t get enough of it. It’s perfect for my skin and leaves it feeling so clean. The best part is that it wasn’t very expensive and a tiny bit of it goes a very long way, so I know this product will be in my routine for a couple of months before I can even consider trying something new and as of right now I plan on sticking with this one. My skin already looks so much better after using it.

EXFOLIATER- Trader Joe’s is the way to go y’all- for food and skincare. Trader Joe’s Blueberry & açaí facial scrub. This exfoliating scrub is cheap and it is amazing! I found it at Trader Joe’s one day and decided to give it a go since everything from that store is remarkable (big fan of the place, can ya tell?) It smells like blueberry yogurt! I exfoliate a few days a week, but def not everyday because it is bad for your skin if you over do it. Exfoliating is necessary in any skincare routine and it steps up your skincare game a bunch. It totally cleans the slate and is one thing I definitely do before I apply makeup for any type of special event because it takes off all that excess dead skin that may be built up. If you haven’t tried exfoliating with a scrub yet, I would suggest to use this one because like I said before, it’s cheap and it works great.

TONERS- If you follow me on Instagram you know that I am newly fond of the Mario Badescu Rosewater Spray. I bought it on a whim when I was in Ulta because I’ve heard a lot about it and I wanted to see what the hype was. Man, I wish I would have jumped on this bandwagon years ago. This spray is such an essential part of my skincare routine now. I spray it on my face every morning and every night. My skin loves this stuff. The only thing I don’t like is the scent, I’m not a big rose scent gal, reminds me of an old woman. BUT, it gets the job done and they have other scents that I am going to try as soon as this one runs out. I use it to hydrate my skin and I use it in place of a toner since I haven’t used a real toner in years. It really has helped my redness disappear. If you haven’t tried this one, you need to and you’ll thank me later!

MOISTURIZERS- My combination skin always always always needs moisturizer whether it’s having a dry day or an oily day. It’s always important to keep your skin moisturized. I trade off between two moisturizers at the moment because they’re both remarkable. For the majority of the time I use the Ole Henriksen Nurture Me Moisturizing Creme. It has the amazing scent to it, almost like a starburst. Super hydrating and such a good product that feels luxury and thick. Some days when I need to really focus on my dehydrated skin I use the Origins Drink Up Intensive Overnight Mask. You can either leave this product on over night as an overnight mask, or you can apply it and leave it on your skin for 10 minutes then rinse. I prefer to leave it on over night two times a week. When I wake up my skin feels extremely hydrated and plump. I don’t think these two will ever be taken out of my skincare routine either.

FACIAL OILS- A newer product to me that I don’t think I can live without anymore even though it is so expensive- Drunk Elephant Virgin Marula Luxury Facial Oil. I apply this every morning and night after I cleanse my face, right before my moisturizer. It hydrates and nourishes my skin. It leaves a healthy glow and my skin feels firm after. I was very hesitant to try this oil because my face is highly sensitive to oil, but the girl at Sephora said that I shouldn’t be concerned because the maker of the brand made these products with sensitive skin in mind so it wouldn’t make me break out. IT DIDN’T. I was shook. Like I said, it’s expensive, but totally worth the money. I’m personally trying to invest in my skin more than anything else these days.

If you have any recommendations or want me to test out more products, send your referrals my way. I have a few products I’m still in the process of testing out, like Drunk Elephant products that I have just been able to try! I will post another blog about my updated skincare routine if it changes and if anything I’m trying out makes the cut!
